DAISY DAILY FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 29, 2016

February 28, 2016

Daisy Friends,

Hope you're all set for a jam-packed week ahead!

The focus is on READING ENJOYMENT and features our "Groovy Book Fair," which kicks off on Monday; a live theatrical production/all-school assembly on Monday;  and our week-long "Read Across America Spirit Week," culminating in special activities on Friday.  Please consult the weekly schedule below for specifics.

Wait until you see the unveiling of Helen's latest artwork/decorations for our Book Fair!!!  As always, it is entirely incredible and I've never experienced anything like it, anywhere!  That being said, I've been sworn to secrecy and I have promised not to post any photos until after everyone has seen it in person on Monday : )

Hope you enjoyed a taste of warmer weather today and see you on Monday!

Warmly,
Ruth

Here are a few scenes from last week:

Congratulations to Jerli Espinoza and Norah Hayden for being recognized for their excellence in the Arts at the Connecticut Association of Schools recent awards ceremony.
We are so proud of your work....
--Jerli in Art and Norah in Music--
and we were delighted that both families were able to attend the festivities.
Thanks to Joe and Jen for joining us in the evening celebration as well!

Adults---Please join us in the fun Spirit Week ahead!
We will celebrate the joy of reading with both
"Read Across America"
and our "Groovy Book Fair!!!"

Thanks so much to everyone who was available to help Helen with Book Fair set-up.
Likewise, if anyone is available to lend Diane a hand with Read Across America Spirit Week this week, please let her know : )

DAISY DAILY FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 22, 2016

Hope your week was relaxing....

...or filled with fast and furious fun!!!

February 21, 2016

Daisy Friends,

I'm looking forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow.  I really hope that this past week was everything that you hoped it would be!

Of course, we've got a jam-packed week ahead, but please take the time you need with your students to get re-acquainted as you ease them back into the daily routine, which will be so good for all.  Fortunately, the extremely cold weather has passed.  We still could have quite a bit of winter ahead, but it's pretty comfortable right now.

NEWS................

  • I'm delighted to share some exciting news about two of our fourth-grade students, who will be honored at the Connecticut Association of Schools' Elementary Arts Awards Ceremony.  Our Music and Art Teachers have chosen the following students to be recognized:
    • Norah Hayden for Excellence in Music
    • Jerli Espinoza for Excellence in Art
  • They will be honored, along with their families, at the CAS Awards Banquet on Monday, Feb. 22.
  • Please check out our "Feeling Groovy," Book Fair Video, which is now posted on our school website.  Thanks SO MUCH to this talented group for bringing yet another Daisy video to life!  The "Daisies" are fabulous, along with everyone else who added their fun faces to this work of art : )
  • We're looking forward to welcoming Sara back on Monday, as she has recuperated from the icy slip she took that resulted in a fractured ankle.
  • Please read through the calendar ahead.  Lots of events this week, including "Tech Tuesday" at 3:15 pm on Tuesday and the rescheduled "Father/Daughter" Dance for this Friday, Feb. 26.
As always, please let me know any concerns you have or anything you'd like me to add.

Enjoy today!

Ruth

Even during the brutal below O degree F weather, there is hope for spring. During that stretch of extreme cold, we had two sets of twin baby goats born on the farm. We kept the Moms and kids toasty warm in our greenhouse.  Sure sign that spring is on the way!!!

"DAISY DAILY" FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 8, 2016

February 7, 2016

NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, FEB. 8---SNOW DAY

Daisy Friends,

I do hope that everyone "enjoyed" the snow day on Friday and that you're pumped up for a fun Super Bowl Day today!

You must admit, when the snow FINALLY stopped and the sun came out, it was gorgeous!  Daisy just wasn't the same without everyone on Friday, but hope you stayed safe and enjoyed the day (and digging out : )

We have an extremely full week ahead with Parent/Teacher Conferences, PTO Meeting, BOE Meeting, etc., etc. . . with perhaps a few more snow flurries thrown in?

Here are a few reminders:

  • Since Friday was a snow day, Monday, Feb. 8 will be an "A" Day!
  • Since many teachers have scheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences throughout the week (not just the designated days of Tuesday and Thursday), I'd like to offer teachers our grade-level meeting time to prepare and/or hold conferences.  Unless your grade-level team has a burning issue that we need to meet about, please consider this time yours for preparation/conferences.
  • Please continue to let me know, as well as our specialists and support teachers, about any Parent/Teacher Conferences that you'd like us to join.
  • The PTO Father/Daughter Dance has been rescheduled to Friday, Feb. 26, at 7 pm.
  • Plans have been approved for all windows to be updated at Daisy this summer.  During this construction phase, the school will be off-limits for students, so ESY/Summer School and Recreation Dept. Camp will be scheduled elsewhere.  As soon as I have a detailed schedule and specifics, I will let you know more.
  • As always, please let me know your concerns.
Warmly,
Ruth
