DAISY DAILY FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 26, 2016

Good News Assembly, Friday, Sept. 23

September 26, 2016

Daisy Staff,

Welcome to a new week of school!

The temps are cooling down and we should have a most comfortable week at school.  Please remember that outside doors must remain closed and locked at all times.  Classroom doors to interior hallways may remain open when those rooms are occupied.

Please note that this week's schedule (below) features a Walking Evacuation Drill to Oxford School on Wed. am; a Staff Meeting re: Mandated Reporting on Wed. pm; and a "Birthday Breakfast" on Wed. am.  I'll send a separate e-mail to all staff members outlining the specifics re: the Evacuation Drill so that new staff members, as well as experienced ones, will have the current plan for this traditional, annual drill.

The first PTO Meeting of the school year will be this Tuesday at 7 pm in our cafe.  It would be lovely to have a few teacher representatives join us as the PTO does so much for our school.

As you know, we have Parent/Teacher Conferences planned for Tuesday, Oct. 4, and Thursday, Oct. 6, with 1 pm dismissal for students on both days. As you plan your Conferences, please let me know any that you would like me to join and please contact specialists who you would like to join your conferences as well.  When your schedule is complete, please send a copy to the office as we frequently have parents/guardians call to confirm and/or ask questions re: the conference schedules.

We're bringing back "Birthday Breakfasts" to Daisy and we plan to schedule one each month to celebrate all staff birthdays for that month.  Please look for sign-ups in the Staff Room.

Let's make it a great week!

DAISY DAILY---WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 19, 2016

Daisy Students & Staff are enjoying the new "Reading Bench" that was dedicated to former principal, Kit Bishop, at our Family Picnic.

September 18, 2016

Daisy Staff,

Thanks to all who ensured that things ran smoothly last Friday, especially Jackie and Shea; Marilyn and Cathy; and Madeline.  The wedding we attended on Block Island was magnificent and I'm glad to be back at Daisy.

This week, we will complete our round of Open House Breakfasts with Fourth-Grade on Monday at 8:30 am.  Thanks to our teachers and staff for all the work that you have put into these and to the PTO for supplying refreshments.

We will hold Grade-Level Meetings this week, as per the schedule below.  We do not have an all-school staff meeting after school on Wednesday.

Our first-grade swim lessons at the "Y" will begin this Tuesday.

Please note that Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (Sept. 20 & 21) are School Picture Days.  All staff members MUST have a photo taken for their school ID at some point during those two days.  Please stop by the "Pit" at your convenience for your photo.

I'm planning our first "Good News" Assembly for this Friday at 2:15 pm to close out the week, so please let me know if you and your students have anything that you'd like to share which will demonstrate a nice transition to the new school year.

Wishing you a wonderful fourth week of school!

Ruth

Thanks to all who came out to celebrate this special event!

September 11, 2016

Hoping that everyone enjoyed a wonderful weekend!

Thanks again for all the well wishes and support of the "Closer to Free Ride" that I completed this past weekend.  It was an amazing event!

We have a busy week ahead, full of Open House Breakfasts; our first Department-Based PLC Meetings on Wednesday; and plenty of activities with our students.

During our Open House Breakfasts, you can plan on the families spending the first half-hour in the cafe enjoying a light breakfast (parents/guardian, children and teachers); then parents/guardians will visit with teachers in classrooms while I spend time with the students in the cafe.  I plan on conducting a morning meeting with each grade level of students and will share a story as well.

I'd like each grade-level team to use your planning time (usually with me) this week to concentrate on planning your message and your rooms for your Open House time with parents/guardians.

We continue to work out any kinks in the Duty Schedule.  I thank you for your continued communication with our office staff re: this.

A few other tidbits:

  • We expect to begin with "Homework Room" on September 12 and the plan is for it to run Monday through Thursday.  I invite any staff members who are interested in supervising our Homework Room to please put this interest in writing to me, as well as to Cathy Dowler, who will be leading this effort.  E-mail is fine.
  • Our office staff asks that if you are taking the last of something (i.e., construction paper, chart paper, other items that the office orders) to please let Shea/Jackie know.
Last but certainly not least.............
Thanks to all who so generously donated to my "Closer to Free Ride" efforts last Friday to help patients at Smilow Cancer Hospital as well as to fund cancer research.  What a pleasant surprise that was to me, when our office staff shared that information with you.  Over the weekend, I've decided to upgrade my 25-mile ride to 62.5 miles, so I'm hoping for good weather this Saturday, September 10.  If you want to check out the link to my homepage for "Closer to Free," click on:

Wishing you a wonderful week!!!
