Daisy Daily for the Week of May 20, 2019

Daisy Staff,

Our 3rd and 4th Grade Students have completed their SBAC Standardized Assessments, save for a few make-ups to take place this week.

Huge thanks go to all who made this work go seamlessly for our students without undue stress.  So many thanks go to classroom teachers, support teachers, paraprofessionals, specialists and all proctors who contributed to the success of our students.  Very special thanks to Kim Godfrey who took charge of scheduling and training proctors.  Everyone worked so very well together!
Special thanks to Alicia Adinolfi for creating these pencils with personal messages (in multiple languages) for every one of our 3rd and 4th graders!

Daisy Daily for the Week of May 13, 2019

Many thanks to our incredible Daisy PTO,
headed up by the Furcola Family,
for a wonderful Staff Appreciation Week,
with treats throughout the past week.
Decorated classroom doors were an exciting
addition to their efforts to show appreciation this year.
Thank you to our Daisy Families!

A few important notes about this week:
  • The Book Swap, facilitated by our WECC/WELL Coordinator, Alyssa Lindquist, will take place this week.  It is set up in the hallway outside our library and students will have the opportunity to access this swap during their regularly-scheduled library times.
  • SBAC Assessments for third- and fourth-graders will continue this week.  Monday is reserved for make-ups and Math SBAC Assessments will take place Tuesday through Friday, as noted on our Daisy Staff Google Calendar.  These assessments will take place between 9:00-10:30 am each morning in Computer Labs 1 and 2 and Room 7.  Please know that this can impact the schedules of our Reading and Math Specialists, as well as Special Education Teachers and our School Psychologist, who serve as proctors.
  • No After-School Meetings are scheduled this Wednesday.
  • We will continue working on class groupings in grade-level meetings this week, during regularly scheduled grade-level meeting times.
  • The May Board of Education Meeting will take place Tuesday, May 14, at 7 pm in the WHS Library.  Our fourth-graders' use of Adaptive Technology will be featured in a presentation at the meeting, along with the work of our middle-school students, who recently presented at an Adaptive Technology Conference.  All are welcome to attend.
  • A Before-School Breakfast, sponsored by Sunshine, will take place on Thursday, May 16th.
  • Fourth Grade Promotion is scheduled for Fri., June 14, at 9:15 am,  with the last day of school for students and staff on Mon., June 17.  (The last three days of school feature student dismissal at 1 pm.)

Happy Staff Appreciation Week
May 6-10, 2019

Daisy Staff,

Our Daisy PTO has some wonderful plans in store for each and every staff member this week (see above).  Please note that Tuesday features a "Taco Tuesday Luncheon" in the Staff Lunch Room.

Thanks to all who contributed to a wonderful luncheon for our incredible paraprofessionals last Friday, whether it was contributing food, treats, letters of appreciation, flowers, decorations, coverage, etc., etc.  This was a wonderful gift to our very dedicated paraprofessionals, which was most appreciated!

Please welcome Diane Fencil,
who will join us in the Daisy office this Tuesday.
Diane will serve as Office Secretary/Receptionist
with hours from 7:30-11:30 am each day.

A few important notes about this week:
  • SBAC Assessments for third- and fourth-graders will take place this week and next week.  Fourth-graders will start on Tuesday, May 7.  Please see specific days for each grade level on our Daisy Staff Google Calendar.  Testing will take place between 9:00-10:30 am each morning in Computer Labs 1 and 2 and Room 7.  Please know that this can impact the schedules of our Reading and Math Specialists, as well as Special Education Teachers and our School Psychologist, who serve as proctors.
  • The Annual Vote on the Town/Education Budget will take place on Tuesday, May 7th, at 7 pm in the Westbrook High School auditorium.  All residents of Westbrook are eligible to vote on the budget.
  • Our Semi-Annual Walk/Bike to School takes place this Wednesday (raindate Thursday).  Staff members who would like to accompany our students and families on this Walk/Bike, should meet in the Ted Lane Parking Lot by 7:45 am.  It would also be wonderful to have staff members at the entry to Daisy (at the bottom of the hill) welcoming walkers and bikers to school on that day.  All students MUST be accompanied by an adult and all bikers MUST wear helmets.
  • Department-Based PLCs will take place after school this Wednesday.
  • We will begin working on class groupings in grade-level meetings this week, to take place in the office during regularly scheduled grade-level meeting times.
  • The May Board of Education Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14, at 7 pm in the WHS Library.
  • Fourth Grade Promotion is scheduled for Fri., June 14, at 9:15 am,  with the last day of school for students and staff on Mon., June 17.  (The last three days of school feature student dismissal at 1 pm.)
Teachers, when you walk your line of students to buses at the end of the day, please be sure to walk each student to the doorway of each bus so that there is proper, safe supervision.
