Daisy Daily for the Week of February 24, 2020

Mark Your Calendars!

Daisy Staff,

Hope you had an opportunity to get outside and enjoy the marvelous weather this weekend!

Here's what you need to know for the week/s ahead:
  • In Grade-Level Team Meetings this week, we will review student data.  In Grades 3 and 4, we will specifically analyze the data from SBAC Interim Assessments.
  • This Wednesday, Feb. 25, we are scheduled to have Department PLCs after school.  Since we swapped earlier PLC Meetings at Daisy with a Principal-Led PLC due to continued work with Progress Monitoring, this week's ELA, Math and Special Ed PLCs will meet jointly in the cafe from 3:15-4:15 pm.  I'll facilitate this meeting with our PLC leaders as we review Accountability Results from the State Dept. of Education.  Special Areas Teachers will meet in their PLCs this week as scheduled, but I'll share the Accountability information with this group at our Friday morning Team Meeting (8 am).  If you need any clarification on this, please let me know.
  • Daisy PTO will meet on Wed., Feb. 26, from 6-7 pm in Cafe.  Teachers are always welcome to attend and/or to send input through a PTO Teacher Representative.
  • The PTO "Sweetheart Dance" will take place this Fri., Feb. 28, from 6:30-8:00 pm in the cafe.  I would welcome any staff members who would like to help me chaperone this fun-filled event.
  • We will celebrate "Read Across America" Day/Dr. Seuss's Birthday on March 2 with guest readers and an opportunity to dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character (students & adults).  There will be a daily theme throughout the week and details will be forthcoming from our Reading Specialist, Vanessa Federico.  Coordinating with our Book Fair theme, which takes place the same week, we will feature a Safari theme on Wed., March 4.
  • Our Library/Medial Specialist, Helen Sweet, has planned yet another fabulous Book Fair for the Week of March 2 with a "Jungle" theme. Family night will take place on Wed., March 4, from 4-8 pm.  Details were sent home both in hard copy and electronically to families last week.
  • March 13: Full Day of Regional Professional Development
    • While some Special Area Staff/Specialists will be attending Regional PD, in-house PD at Daisy includes:
      • STEM Planning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math);  AM session.
      • Reading (Analyzing students levels, data; "shopping" for leveled books in the Pit to increase classroom libraries); PM session.
      • Note: Special education teachers are welcome to join classroom teachers in these PD activities.
  • March 19: PM Professional Development (1:15-3:15 pm) with Student Dismissal at 1 pm.  Offerings include:
    • PMT Refresher for specific staff members (hosted at Daisy)
    • Science/Social Studies--Professional Development/Unit Planning
  • Please consider joining in the fun, charitable festivity by attending "Light on Westbrook," a Photography Exhibition and Photo Drawing Event at The Oxford Academy on Saturday, March 21, from 6:30-8:30 pm.  This important event helps to fund The Summer Meal Project for Youths, which takes place at Daisy Ingraham over the summer.  Tickets, as well as information on exhibiting your photographic work, are available in the Daisy Office.
  • "STEM" Night (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) will take place on April 8, 2020; 5:30-7:00 pm.  Our Math Specialist, Beth Haynes, is coordinating with our teaching staff to provide a wonderful night of learning and fun for our students and families.
  • An all-new "Family Wellness Night" will take place on Thurs., May 21, from 5-7 pm at Daisy.  This event is hosted by our District Wellness Committee; details to follow.

Daisy Daily for the Week of February 3, 2020

Thanks so much to five of our colleagues
who participated in the two-day
Restorative Practices Training
last Thursday and Friday.
We're so happy to welcome you back
on Monday and to hear about this training
and how it can impact our work together!

Daisy Staff,

This week features Parent/Teacher Conferences (throughout the week), as well as the 100th Day of School on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

We will celebrate our 100th Day of School together by participating in an all-school assembly on Wednesday at 2 pm in the Gym.  At this assembly, we would like to feature some of the "100 Day" events that you naturally do with our students, such as: collections of 100; counting to 100; writing about being 100 years old; dressing like what students think a 100-year-old looks like; etc.  If you're doing any of these activities--or more--please enter what you'd like your students to share at the assembly, in this document:

Please know that I am not asking you to do anything extra beyond what you ordinarily do.  I just think that this would be a great opportunity for all of our students to further develop the concept of 100 by sharing the ideas of their peers.

Due to Parent/Teacher Conferences this week, with early dismissal on Tuesday and Thursday and associated schedule changes, we won't hold Grade-Level Meetings in the office.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE FOLLOWING EVENTS:

  • Parent/Teacher Conferences: Feb. 4 & 6.  Students will be dismissed at 1 pm on both days.
  • 100th Day of School (tentative):  Feb. 5, 2020.  All-school assembly at 2 pm in the Gym.
  • February Recess: Feb. 17-18, 2020
  • "STEM" Night (Science/Technology/Math): April 8, 2020; 5:30-7:00 pm.
  • "Read Across America" Day/Dr. Seuss's Birthday: March 2
  • Week of March 2: "Jungle" Book Fair
