Daisy Daily for the Week of March 1, 2021

The week of March 1 will be an exciting week, full of special events and activities, namely:

  • Kick-off for "Read Across America Week"/Dr. Seuss's Birthday
  • Opening of Virtual Book Fair, which will run through March 14.
  • A number of students who have been remote since the beginning of the school year are coming back, in-person, on Monday, as well as Lynne Fischer's class, which was remote last week.
  • Westbrook Staff Members are now eligible to participate in the Vaccine Clinics, set up by Superintendent Martineau and the Health Dept., and many are already signed up for Monday and throughout this week!
So...........
  • Please re-read Vanessa Federico's email regarding the daily events for "Read Across America."  She also sent out an email with the specific activities for Monday.  All of the information has also gone out to families, both digitally and in hard copy.  Adults--please participate in the Spirit Days along with our students, which will make it even more exciting for them!  It's all about generating excitement around and a love of reading.
  • Please re-read the Book Fair Notices that were sent out earlier to all staff members.  This two week-virtual event is coordinated by Helen Sweet and Parent Krystle Jochim.
  • Check the Daisy Google Calendar for Grade-Level Meetings and other events this week.
  • Please know that Kate Cote's PreK classroom and Morgan Fair's 4th Grade classroom are both quarantined and will be working remotely until March 8.  If you are a Special Area Teacher or Service Provider who works with students in these classrooms, please make arrangements to teach/service them remotely.
  • As of this moment, we have 12 staff members either absent or teaching remotely tomorrow, so we will need to be flexible as we work through our day.  We'll send out the plan for coverage, as usual, in the AM.
  • Marking Period 2 ends Friday, March 5.  I'll send out dates re: Report Card Distribution soon.
  • We have exciting plans for Professional Development on March 12, which will include time for reviewing/evaluating student data, progress reports and report card collaboration, as well as some special SEL times for adults.
Let's make it a great week for our students and each other.  When the going gets tough, please remember all the positives that we have going for us!

Daisy Daily for the Week of February 8, 2021

Daisy Colleagues,

As you're waiting for the Super Bowl to begin--in the middle of a snow storm--here are a few updates re: the week ahead, our Week #23 of School:

  • We're looking forward to welcoming students and staff back to full, in-person learning on Monday, sans the families who have opted to keep their children in Remote Learning.  Please check the Google document previously shared, as we continue to update this with the most up-to-date information re: Remote Learners.
  • Please consult the updated Duty Schedules, emailed out to all on Friday.  These schedule will take effect on Mon., Feb. 8.
  • Our 100th Day of School will be Monday, Feb. 8.
  • The monthly February Board of Education Meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7:00 pm, virtually.
  • Grade-level Team Meetings will take place this week, virtually, as scheduled in our Google Staff Calendar.

As always, please consult the Daisy Staff Google Calendar for all dates and events at:

We will release a "100th Day of School" Video,
which celebrates our daily school life in 100 photos,
thanks to the hard work of Beth Haynes and Lisa Sizer!

Many teachers and students will continue to celebrate our 100th Day of School with favorite, traditional activities,
tweaked a bit for this year.
Please take pics and share them with us!

As Valentines Day approaches,
it's wonderful to see hearts with positive messages cropping up
 all around our school.
If you'd like your students to exchange Valentine cards, please just remind families to send them in early this week before distribution on Friday, Feb. 12.  Of course, if students are bringing cards in, we ask that they remember all classmates.
Please also feel free to enlist the help of Room Parents to send in some special, pre-packaged snacks as we discussed earlier.
If you haven't yet heard who your Room Parents are, please contact one of our PTO Co-Presidents: Tovah Vincent or Melissa Bonner.

Please remember that February 15 and 16 are School Holidays,
in honor of Presidents Day, creating a four-day weekend.

This is a time to be more vigilant than ever, practicing our Safety/Health Protocols with:
  • Proper, Consistent Mask Wearing
  • Social Distancing
  • Use of Desk Shields
  • Frequent Hand-Washing & Sanitizing
  • Monitoring for Symptoms/Filling Out Health Forms Each Morning
  • Referring Students to School Nurse with Health Concerns
(((We must all work together to keep everyone healthy.)))

Special thanks go out to our WHS friends (colleagues and students) who read virtually to our Daisy students last week during World Read-Aloud Day!  It was so much fun seeing everyone connected across the district.

Wishing all a wonderful week and do take care!
We are starting off this week with NO classes in quarantine and are hoping for a full house!  : )

Warmly,
Ruth
