VICTORY!!!

Daisy Staff,

Our 6th Annual Daisy Dash 5K/Fun Run was a resounding success on Saturday!  We had beautiful weather, 422 registered runners in the 5K and many, many students in the Fun Run!  Thanks so much to our very dedicated core group of PTO parents who put so much work into making this biggest fundraiser of the year such a successful event.  Thanks so much, too, to staff members who volunteered time with our students at Run Club in advance of the run and for those who showed up on Saturday to help and/or run.  Your involvement is so very much appreciated!!!

Westbrook High School also had a most successful "run" with the play, Spamalot, this weekend as well!  We congratulate our families involved in this amazing event!

It's going to be a super-quick week for us and here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Although we won't have grade-level meetings in the office this week, due to the shortened week, I would like to meet with Grade 1, as scheduled on Tuesday since we weren't able to meet last week.
  • We have Early Dismissal on Wednesday at 1 pm, and the PTO will be making their annual homemade bread deliveries to all staff members on that day.
  • Our Daisy budget for the next school year is due in Central Office by Wednesday of this week.  Please let me know any concerns/needs that we haven't already discussed (especially PLC Leaders).
  • Marking Period 1 Ends November 28, with Report Cards going home on December 12.  Please note that the end of all three Marking Periods/Trimesters are marked in our Staff Google Calendar.  Special Area Team members will have grades for students entered by December 7.
  • Specials for Pre-School classes will start on Thursday, November 28, which is an "A" Day and the first day of Trimester 2.
  • An Initial PMT Training will be offered in district on Friday, December 7, for staff members requiring training.
  • Please save the Date for our Staff Holiday Party---Friday, December 14, 5 pm!

The Keynote Speaker at the Early Childhood Forum last week was Scarlet Lewis, mother of Jesse Lewis who perished at Sandy Hook, and also founder of the "Choose Love" Movement.  She delivered an inspirational message to a sold-out crowd of early childhood educators and parents.
Kudos to Early Childhood Coordinator, Alyssa Lindquist, who planned the forum, and who provides numerous educational opportunities for our early childhood educators and families.

Afternoon pre-schoolers and their teachers joined our
school community in the parade on October 31.

Daisy Friends,

Here's to a busy week ahead!
  • Monday, Nov. 5, features our Early Childhood Forum, with set-up in the Cafe beginning at 3:15 pm.  The forum runs from 5-8 pm, featuring keynote speaker Scarlett Lewis, founder of the "Choose Love" Movement, dedicated to her son, Jesse, who lost his life in the Sandy Hook tragedy.  There will be eight break-out sessions after the keynote speaker/dinner, with a record crowd expected of about 160 attendees.  This is a fabulous event for our community and many thanks to Alyssa Lindquist and our staff members who are involved in its success!
  • Tuesday, Nov. 6, is a Professional Day for staff, with no school for students.  We have Science PD and PMT Training at Daisy as well as Regional PD and other PD throughout the district.  Agendas have been distributed to all disciplines involved.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 7, features our regularly-scheduled Staff Meeting, but the focus will be on well-being and stress-relief.  Come prepared to experience some fun with colleagues.  No laptops or materials required.
  • We will observe Veterans Day on Monday, November 12, by honoring our Veterans with a school-wide assembly at 1 pm in the Gym.  We will have invitations ready to go home to families and Veterans this week.
