Daisy Daily for the Week of September 9, 2019

Preschool with Mrs. Gersz.

Spanish class with Senora Reynolds.
Daisy Staff,

Thanks for a great first two weeks of school so far and welcome to Week Three!

  • As you know we have Open House Breakfasts each morning this week, starting at 8:30 am in the Cafe.
    • Here's the schedule:
    • 8:30-8:45 am--Breakfast for students, families and staff from each grade level in the cafe (provided by the PTO.)
    • 8:45-9:05 am--Parents/Guardians go to classrooms with teachers.  I'll take students to the "Pit" for a brief morning meeting and story in English and Spanish with MaryJo Noonan and me.
    • 9:05-9:15 am--We'll bring students back to classrooms and they can show families a few highlights in their rooms.
    • 9:15 am--We'll make an announcement that Open House has been completed and thank all for joining us, as many parents need to get to work.
    • Here's the line-up for grade levels and Open House Breakfasts:
    • Monday: Grade 4
    • Tuesday: Grade 3
    • Wednesday: Grade 2
    • Thursday: Grade 1
    • Friday: Grade K
    • Students arriving before school who usually meet in the Cafe (Daisy Dining Room) with Mrs. Bielawa (and other staff members) will go to the Pit.
    • Thanks to all for your flexibility as these Open House Breakfasts will impact morning events this week.
  • Due to Open House Breakfasts, we won't hold Grade-Level Meetings this week.  Next week, we will study student data in Grade-Level Meetings as it will be the designated third week of the month.
  • All new staff members are invited to the Board of Education meeting this Tuesday, September 10th, at 7 pm at the Westbrook High School Library.  This is a great opportunity for new staff members to meet our Board of Education members and I look forward to seeing you there.
  • Thanks so much to Kim Godfrey and Maggie Gilhuly for creating the fabulous display of new staff members in the display case in our main lobby!
  • "Kids' News" will start this week.  This live streaming of fourth-graders presenting the daily news--and leading students in the Pledge of Allegiance--can be viewed at any time as it is recorded live and posted on our Daisy web page.  Thanks so much to Kim Godfrey for facilitating this!  A lot of work goes into each morning's presentation and contains valuable daily news.  Classroom teachers, please share this with students on your classroom Smartboard or any computer.  It's also great to know, now that we're livestreaming and posting it on our school web page, that ALL staff members--as well as families--can view this at any point during the day, or even look back at earlier broadcasts because it's archived on the website.  Our fourth-graders take great pride in their presentation of Kids' News!
  • There is no Wednesday after-school Faculty Meeting this week, but PLEASE remember that we have our Mandated Reporter Training next Tuesday, September 17th, in the cafe from 3:15-4:15 pm for all staff members.
  • Please, also remember that ALL staff members must complete three online trainings ASAP.  These are accessible on our District Web Page, under the tab "Employee Resources," under Health and are:
    • Bloodborne Pathogens Training
    • Health Training
    • Mandated Reporter Training (This one produces a certificate upon completion, which much be shared with office staff, either in hard copy or electronically.)  When sending anything to the office, please copy Alicia Adinolfi, Diane Fencil and me.  Many thanks in advance!
Let's make it a great week!  As always, please let me know your concerns.

Please always remember to check our Daisy Staff Google Calendar regularly as we continue to update this calendar, daily:
