DAISY DAILY FOR WEEK OF FEBRUARY 27, 2017

Daisy Staff,

I sincerely hope that everyone enjoyed a wonderful week last week, doing some special things that you enjoyed, whether you were at home or away : )

As we come back to school on Monday, please keep in mind that from Monday through Thursday we will be enjoying all that the "Happy Camper" Book Fair brings us, thanks to Helen Sweet!  On Friday, we will celebrate "Read Across America" with a common camping theme, thanks to Diane Lewis!

Here are a few notes and news as we prepare for the week ahead:

  • Maintenance that took place last week included: thorough cleaning and disinfecting of all rooms; final window installation in Mrs. White's K Room, a Resource Room and the Art Room; finishing touches on main office renovation (electrical, painting); and general maintenance and cleaning.
  • Document cameras are in house and Ben will be installing these in designated classrooms this week.
  • The paper closet (off the cafe) has been organized and replenished and is open for use by staff.  Please let office staff know when supplies are getting low (or when you take the last items) and please help us keep it tidy so that everyone can find what they need efficiently.
  • Please take a few moments to review Safety Drill protocols with your students, including  Lock-Down Drills, as we will have a practice drill in the near future.
  • Monday---Most of our Special Area Team Members will be involved in PMT Training, a full-day training that Jenna Brady and Nicole Archambault are leading at WMS (scheduled for the WMS Library from 7:45 am - 2:45 pm).
  • Tuesday features an all-staff Breakfast in the Staff Room at 8 am; please join us!  Due to the Breakfast on Tuesday, I plan to move the Leadership Team Meeting to another morning this week, but will contact the group as we have 8 am meetings every morning. Also, "Tech Tues" after school in the Music Room at 3:15 pm will be held on Tuesday.
  • Wednesday---Staff Meeting (3:15-4:15 pm) in cafe, as well as Family Night at the Book Fair (4-8 pm)
  • Friday---PTO "Guys & Dolls" Dance (aka Father/Daughter Dance) in the cafe from 7-8:30 pm.
  • UPCOMING EVENTS:
    • March 9, 1 pm Dismissal for students due to Professional Development (PD)
    • March 10, No School for Students, PD for Certified Staff (Details to come re: both days)
    • March 18---"Light on Westbrook" Photographic Art Show at Oxford, co-sponsored by Westbrook Public Schools
    • March 23---MATH NIGHT

Two of our fourth-graders were recently recognized by the
Connecticut Association of Schools for their artistic talents.
Thank you to our music and art teachers for choosing
Ethan Dazey for his musical talent and
Dayana Portillo for her artistic talents.


Our 100th Day of School Assembly was even more special
due to our very entertaining magician friend, Bob Hale.
Thanks so much to Lesley Harrington for planning this special assembly for all of us!

What wild weather we've been experiencing lately.  Let's see if we can get a full week in before Winter Vacation next week. : )

OUR STAFF CALENDAR:



  • Please know that I continue to update this calendar throughout the week as we make revisions to our calendar, such as when we have a snow day.  When that happens, we make a change in our rotating schedule so that we don't miss a day in rotation.  Rather, the missed day skips to the next day of school.
A FEW NOTES ABOUT THIS WEEK:

  • The Report Card Committee will meet Tuesday at 8 am.
  • The BOE Meeting on Tuesday evening (beginning at 7 pm) will feature a Budget Workshop.
  • On Wednesday, we have District-wide PLCs from 3:15-4:15 pm.  Classroom teachers will all meet in the ELA PLC that day with Diane Lewis.
  • Our student inventors will set up their "Invention Convention" on Thursday from 9:00-10:30 am in the cafe.  Teachers will have the opportunity to bring their classes by to view the inventions.  Thanks so much to Amory Blackwell for taking on this wonderful project!
  • Our Westbrook High School readers have rescheduled for this Friday, Feb. 17, from 10:00-11:00 am.  I would love to see all of our classrooms involved in this.  Classroom teachers--if your students have a special during that time, please coordinate with the special area teacher re: hosting a guest reader during special.  The readers will take less than 30 minutes, so please sign up in the office for 10:00-10:30 or 10:30-11:00.
  • February Vacation Week is Feb. 20-24.  Feb. 20 is a holiday (Presidents Day) and school will be closed.  The office will be open Tuesday through Friday (Feb. 21 through 24) and we will also host the Park/Rec Camp during that time.  In addition, Helen Sweet and her volunteers are planning on setting up the Book Fair on Friday, Feb. 24.
  • "Happy Camper" Book Fair takes place Feb. 27 through March 2, with Family Night on Wed., March 1.  "Read Across America" will also take place that week, with the same theme.
  • The PTO "Father/Daughter Dance" aka "Special Someone" Dance will take place on Friday, March 3.
  • Please refer to the calendar link for additional dates and please forward me additional information that you'd like added to our Staff Calendar.

Daisy Staff,

We have a wonderfully full week ahead, but then, when don't we?

We'll see how many students stayed up late for the big game on Sunday and how timely arrivals are on Monday : )

ENJOY THE GAME!!!

Some important notes about the week ahead:
  • Monday is our 100th Day of School.  Let's plan on starting our "Good News Assembly" at 9:45 am as we have our special guest, Magician Bob Hale, joining us.  We need to be completed by 10:45 am for K lunch.  Thanks for your flexibility.
  • Tuesday and Thursday are our Parent Teacher Conference Days with 1 pm dismissal.  Please forward your conference schedules to the office so that we can field questions from families re: conference times.  Please let me know any conferences that you'd like to have assistance with during that time.  There will be snacks in the Staff Room during those afternoons to keep our energy levels up : )
  • Thursday, Feb. 9, will also be PMT Training for our Special Area Teachers and additional district staff.  This is an all day training; location TBA.
  • Friday, Feb. 10, will feature PD for Sexual Abuse Prevention/Awareness Curriculum Writing for specific staff members. 
  • Marking Period 2 ends February 13.
