I hope that you enjoyed yet another fabulous summery-weather weekend!

Thanks to all we helped to make our Kindergarten and First-Grade Open House Breakfasts so successful last week.  We look forward to completing our Open House Breakfasts for Grades 2, 3 and 4 this week.  (Please see schedule in Staff Google Calendar below.)

DAISY STAFF CALENDAR 2017-2018

A few notes about this week:

  • Wednesday features a School-Based PLC Meeting from 3:15-4:15 pm in the cafe.  (Agenda items included: An overview of SBAC results; preview of Daisy's YouTube channel featuring Kids' News; Restorative Practices Update; and Finalized Assessment Calendar.)
  • Two informational meetings re: next April's China Trip will take place this week, on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7 pm in Ginny White's classroom.  
  • Our annual practice Walking Evacuation Drill to Oxford Academy is scheduled to take place this Thursday at approximately 9:15 am.
  • We will hold our first "Good News" Assembly of the school year on Friday at 2 pm in the gym.  This all-school assembly will recognize students who participated in Summer Reading and Math Challenges with a celebration of a "Prismatic Magic Show" for all, sponsored by our Daisy PTO.
Coming up next week, Week of October 2:
  • "Wild West" Book Fair in our school library
  • Early Dismissal on Oct. 3 & Oct. 5 at 1 pm for Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • Family Night at the Book Fair on Tuesday, Oct. 3
RESTORATIVE PRACTICES TRAINING:
  • Thanks to all who came back from training last week, with renewed energy and excitement to further their work in Proactive and Responsive Circles with our students.
  • Future trainings are scheduled to take place in our district and I encourage you to find that one that best meets your needs.  These trainings are for ALL staff members.  Future dates are:
  • October 2nd & 3rd
  • October 30th & 31st
  • January 16th & 17th
  • January 18th & 19th
  • February 1st & 2nd

  • Click the green square that says “register” in the upper right-hand corner of screen
  • Scroll down until you find the Session you seek (there are many so keep scrolling)
  • The screen will tell you how many seats are still available under the title or it will say sold out
  • Find the drop down that depicts a “0”
  • Select the number of people you are registering; that should be 1 in most cases
  • Once information is entered, click “complete registration” at the very bottom of the screen
  • A ticket will be printed
Be certain to retain that ticket and bring it with you to the session you attend.

Please remember that you must also fill out a Conference Request Form and submit that to the office as well.

Thanks to all for joining in the fun of "Spirit Week" last week!

Here's a look at the week ahead:
  • Several staff members will be involved in the Restorative Practices Training on Monday and Tuesday of this week at Westbrook High School.  Please check the daily e-mail re: staff absences and coverage each morning.
    • Please keep in mind that this training is for ALL staff members and our superintendent and I both encourage you to sign up for a future training this school year if you haven't already.
    • Please also know that I'll be attending this two-day training at WHS this week as well.  I'll start and end the day at Daisy and will be available as needed throughout the day.
  • In Grade-Level Meetings this week, we'll finalize our Assessment Calendars.
  • The first Daisy PTO Meeting of the school year will take place on Tuesday evening at 7 pm in the cafe.  Please join us if you can.
  • Our first planning meeting for our Breakfast Meetings for EL Families will take place this Wednesday morning before school.  (Please consult our Staff Calendar for details.)
  • School Photos will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  Classroom teachers, please be sure that you've signed up for a time slot for your class.  All staff members who don't have an ID card, or who need a new one, should stop by the "pit" for a photo.
  • Our Open House Breakfasts will kick off this week, starting on Thursday at 8:30 am with Kindergarten.  Please consult the Staff Calendar link for a complete list of all Open House Breakfasts.  Invitations have been sent out to families.

The fundamental premise of restorative practices is that people are happier, more cooperative and productive, and more likely to make positive changes when those in positions of authority do things with them, rather than to them or for them.

Daisy Daily for Week of September 11, 2017

A few things about the week ahead:
  • I'm delighted to let you know that Alicia Adinolfi, who has transferred from the Westbrook High School office will now be with us full-time in the Daisy office.  Alicia and Jackie make an awesome Administrative Assistant team and I feel so grateful to have both with us!

  • We'll be meeting in grade-level teams this week, in the office.  Please consult the Daisy Staff Google Calendar for scheduled times.
  • The Board of Education will meet this Tuesday at 7 pm in the Westbrook High School Library.  New staff members have been invited to the meeting.
  • We'll have our first Department PLCs this Wednesday from 3:15-4:15 pm.  You will receive agendas from PLC Leaders, if you haven't already.
  • Our Daisy PTO Family Picnic is also scheduled for this Wednesday, from 5-7 pm, with a raindate of Friday, Sept. 15.
  • Our Open House Breakfasts for each grade level have been set and invitations have gone out to families.  Please consult the calendar for days/times.
  • School photos will be taken on September 19 and 20th.
  • Westbrook Fire Department will be visiting with safety presentations for all grade levels soon.  Please sign up in the office for time slots.
  • Several staff members have already signed up for Restorative Practice Training.  Please check the dates in the e-mail that Pat and I both sent out to you and let me know when you'd like to attend.  We want to strategically plan to get all staff members trained without too many staff members out at any one time.

Morning Meeting in a Second-Grade Classroom.



It was a beautiful day for the "Closer to Free" Bike Ride on Saturday.
This amazing event featured 1,700 bikers who raised more than $3 million dollars for cancer patients and research at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven.
