Daisy Daily for the Week of December 10, 2018

Daisy Staff,

Hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful weekend.

Please know that additional Science materials/kits/manuals have arrived for all grade levels and Beth is delivering to classrooms.

Thanks so much to Kim for organizing our annual Mitten/Hat Collection for those in need.  Thanks to everyone's generosity, we collected 99 pairs of mittens and 17 hats, which will be delivered to Westbrook Youth and Family Services for distribution.  What a wonderful donation!

Thanks to those who have joined their Buddy Classes in decorating doors and bulletin boards with a holiday theme.  What a festive flair this adds to our school!

A few notes about the week/s ahead:

  • At Tuesday evening's Board of Education Meeting (7 pm at Westbrook High School Library), we will highlight what our students in K-4 have learned by participating in "Hour of Code."  Kim and a few of our students will attend the meeting to showcase our students' talents and work.
  • Report Cards will go home with students in their Daily Folders on Wednesday.  As always, if you have concerns about any reports, please let me know.
  • Classroom Teachers---Please send folders home daily with notices, student work, etc.  Please do not hold information to go home on Wednesdays as was the past practice.
  • Classes will have the opportunity to visit the Holiday Shop in Room 13 on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the schedule on display in the office.  The PTO offers scholarships to students for this event.  Please let me know if you have any concerns.
  • Grade-level Meetings and other meetings will take place this week, as scheduled, in our Daisy Calendar.
  • Our Staff Holiday Party is this Friday, December 14, 5 pm at the Cukoo's Nest, 1712 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook.  (Theme: Festive Sweater Day!)
  • The week of Dec. 17 has been designated "Spirit Week" with each day featuring a different theme:
    • Monday--"Happy Holidays from the Family" (Wear Your Favorite Flannels)
    • Tuesday--"Candy Cane Tuesday" (Wear Red, White and/or Green)
    • Wednesday--"Island of Toys" (Dress as your favorite toy)
    • Thursday--"Ringing in the New Year" (Dress to Impress)
    • Friday---"Silent Night"--School-wide Pajama Day with Traditional Holiday Sing-a-long at 12:15 pm.  (Third-grade classes are invited to join an earlier lunch wave so that all lunches will be completed by 12:15 pm.)
  • Of course, these Spirit Days are optional for students and adults.  Please join in the fun, if you desire!
  • Students will be dismissed at 1 pm on Friday, Dec. 21st, for the Holidays and will return to school on Wed., Jan. 2.  The school office will remain open over the holiday break except for the holidays of Dec. 24, 25, 26 and Jan. 1.
