DAISY DAILY FOR WEEK OF MAY 23, 2016

Our "K" Students enjoyed another wonderful, educational field trip to Fish Tale.
Thanks to Ginny White for organizing this and to Jim Schreck for so generously
hosting our students and staff, year after year.

May 22, 2016

Daisy Staff,

Hope everyone had a good weekend!
Here are some notes re: the weeks ahead.......

  • Our 3rd and 4th Graders have completed SBAC Testing, save for some make-ups, which will be scheduled by Kim and Special Ed Teachers.  Room 10 will NOT be used, so regular activities in and around that area can resume.
  • The Schedule Committee will meet before school on Monday, May 23, at 8 am in my office.  I would love to have teacher representation from K and 4th grade.  If you can join us, please do.  At the first meeting, the committee reviewed the results of the Staff Survey re: our schedule.  The group will reconvene on Monday and I welcome others to join.
  • Tuesday is a big day for classroom and special education teachers re: Professional Development Training in our new Math program, "Bridges."  Each classroom/special ed teacher will participate in 3 hours of training on that day in Lesley's room.  I will send out the coverage chart via e-mail.
  • Wednesday's PLC is a school-based meeting, facilitated by me, from 3:15-4:15 pm in the cafe.  The agenda will include updated security measures; end-of-year concerns; ordering for next year; and the opportunity for staff to complete our Annual School Climate Survey.
  • Our 4th Grade Chorale & Band Concert is this Thursday evening at WHS, with an early morning practice on Wed. at WHS. (Please consult calendar below for times.)
  • There will be a Breakfast to honor all of our Paraprofessionals on Thursday at 8 am in the Staff Room.  Teachers and other support staff members---please plan to bring a treat to share.
  • Field Day is scheduled for this Friday, May 27.  As has been the tradition at Daisy, all staff members are expected to participate in this day by covering a post, which will be assigned by Ryan.  Having all staff members involved is what makes our Daisy Field Day so successful.  I have not witnessed its equal anywhere else!
  • I'm planning on holding the dedication of our "Buddy Benches" at a school-wide assembly this Friday at 2 pm, at the conclusion of Field Day, rather than showing movies in classrooms as has been the practice in the past.  This will take place in the gym and I will be enlisting the help of some 3rd and 4th graders with that.
  • During Grade-Level Meetings this week, the teams will continue to work on student placement for next year.
  • As always, please let me know your concerns and anything that I may have forgotten!
Thanks,
Ruth

DAISY DAILY FOR WEEK OF MAY 16, 2016

Our Annual Bike/Walk to School Day
Was a Marvelous Success!!!

May 15, 2016

As we start another week at Daisy, I'd like to share some updates with you:
  • Thanks to ALL who helped to make our first week of SBAC Testing so successful!  Our 3rd and 4th graders took the ELA sections of the assessment last week and will take the Math sections of SBAC this week.  Please consult the schedule that was distributed via Google doc for any schedule changes (lunch/recess times, etc.)  I so appreciate the work of our proctors as well as everyone else who has helped to accommodate this testing.
  • Thanks to all who responded to my invitation to serve on a Scheduling Committee.  The first meeting of this group will take place at 8 am on Monday in my office.  All who responded by Friday are included on this committee and I will be happy to accept more staff members in order to represent all segments of our population.  If you are interested and haven't yet responded, please let me know ASAP.
  • We will have an all-school assembly on Monday morning at 9:30 am entitled: "Kid Power's Operation Lunch Line 3D." This show is about eating healthy and feeling great and contains a 3D visual tour of the human body, emphasizing anatomy, humor and feeling good.  This presentation will take place in the gym.  (Only make-ups for SBAC are scheduled for Monday, before and after the 9:30 am performance. Kim is working with proctors to schedule these.)
  • Thanks to all who participated in reviewing Placement Cards in Team Meetings last week.  The updated, color-coded forms will be available in the office this week for classroom teachers.  We will continue our work with placement this week.
  • Please know that Julie Silva's resignation was accepted at last week's Board of Education Meeting.  Julie made the decision to stay home for an extended time with her two children and asked that I share this with her colleagues.
  • Unfortunately, Lori Salisbury's father-in-law passed away last week.  I know that you will share with me in expressing your condolences to her.  The family is planning services, etc., and I'll let you know when Lori has more information to share.

DAISY DAILY FOR WEEK OF MAY 2

HAPPY STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK!

May 1, 2016

We had so many wonderful, educational activities last week for our students in celebration of "Earth Day."  Thanks so much to everyone for your flexibility so that we could accomplish all of this.  Our PTO Co-President, Lorie Pill, put a lot into planning these activities.  Perhaps you would consider having your students express appreciation to her for these opportunities.

A few notes about the upcoming week:
  • SBAC Practice will continue for Grades 3 and 4 in the Computer Labs and Room 10.  This is our opportunity to go over the format of the assessment and to work out the kinks.  Proctors--please bring your sign-on credentials as you work with Kim on this.
  • The PTO is planning on providing a "Staff Appreciation Luncheon" on Tuesday during lunch waves for all the adults in the building.  Enjoy!
  • During our Staff Meeting on Wednesday, Kim and Michele will provide updated SBAC Proctor Training to all involved in this.  There will be other content offered to grades K-2 teachers and special area teachers, but all staff will convene in the cafe at 3:15 pm for a special treat.
  • Our Second-Grade "Community Helpers" Presentations will take place on Friday afternoon.
  • The WECC/WELL Book Swap will take place this week.  We'll get particulars out to classroom teachers re: your students' involvement.
Wishing all a wonderful week!!!

As always, please let me know your concerns.
