Daisy Daily for Week of May 8, 2017

Our hostesses at the "High Tea."

Daisy Staff,

This week marks the beginning of SBAC Assessment.  We will host a kick-off assembly for Grade 3 and 4 students and staff on Monday, May 8, in the cafe at 2:15 pm.  We will preview the latest, updated SBAC Video and talk about what's to come in the next two weeks.

Testing sites to be used this year include: our Main Computer Lab, Computer Lab II and Room 20; as well as Mrs. Marilyn Brown's office and adjacent offices; Mrs. Gilhuly's room; and Ms. Willet's room.  We ask that everyone please use special care when traveling about the building, reminding students to keep the noise level down near testing sites.  Signs will be posted on classroom and office doors to indicate that testing is taking place.  This year, there are no restrictions on the Grade K-2 playground, as Room 10 is NOT being used as an assessment site this year.

There will be some minor changes in lunch/special schedules during testing and Michele and Kim have notified those involved. We will distribute hard copies of these schedule changes to all involved for easy access.

We appreciate everyone's flexibility and support.  Testing concludes on Friday, May 19, with make-up testing scheduled for May 22 and 23.

We encourage all students to do their best on these assessments, without putting undue stress on them.  I also so appreciate the careful work of our SBAC proctors.

This week, we will also celebrate Staff Appreciation Week, as May 9 is designated at National Teacher Appreciation Day.

  • The Daisy PTO will honor our staff by providing a luncheon for all staff members on Tuesday, May 9, in the Staff Lunch Room.
  • Each day during this week, we will also announce the winner of the "Recess Raffle," for the staff member who will be relieved of a recess duty on that day.
  • Other fun activities highlighting our appreciation of our staff will appear throughout the week.
Other notes about the week ahead:
  • During Grade-Level Meeting this week, each grade level will review the Sexual Awareness/Abuse Prevention (SAAP) curriculum, except when those team meetings conflict with our SBAC Schedule.
  • Our "Book Swap" sponsored by WECC/WELL will also take place this week.
  • Department-Based PLCs will take place on Wednesday, afterschool.
  • Please consult the Staff Calendar for additional dates and information:

  • The Annual Town Meeting, which includes a vote on the school and town budget, will take place on Tuesday, May 16, at 7 pm in the Westbrook High School Auditorium.

Let's make it a great week!
