VICTORY!!!

Daisy Staff,

Our 6th Annual Daisy Dash 5K/Fun Run was a resounding success on Saturday!  We had beautiful weather, 422 registered runners in the 5K and many, many students in the Fun Run!  Thanks so much to our very dedicated core group of PTO parents who put so much work into making this biggest fundraiser of the year such a successful event.  Thanks so much, too, to staff members who volunteered time with our students at Run Club in advance of the run and for those who showed up on Saturday to help and/or run.  Your involvement is so very much appreciated!!!

Westbrook High School also had a most successful "run" with the play, Spamalot, this weekend as well!  We congratulate our families involved in this amazing event!

It's going to be a super-quick week for us and here are a few things to keep in mind:

The Keynote Speaker at the Early Childhood Forum last week was Scarlet Lewis, mother of Jesse Lewis who perished at Sandy Hook, and also founder of the "Choose Love" Movement.  She delivered an inspirational message to a sold-out crowd of early childhood educators and parents.
Kudos to Early Childhood Coordinator, Alyssa Lindquist, who planned the forum, and who provides numerous educational opportunities for our early childhood educators and families.

Daisy Daily for the Week of October 29, 2018

Daisy Friends,

Thanks to all who came together to make "Pink Day" to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness a success at Daisy on Friday!

As we enter the new week:
  • Please let me know if any of your students and/or families have indicated that they want their children to participate in an alternative activity on Wednesday from 2:00-2:30 pm during the parade.  Ryan and Joe have generously offered to facilitate movement and art activities during that time.  We really want to encourage all families to keep their children in school all day and by having alternative activities, we hope to accomplish this.  As we want to plan appropriately, we will make a list of students participating in alternative activities to share with Ryan and Joe and all teachers, so please get us that information ASAP.
  • We have an offer from a senior student at Oxford Academy who would like to work with our students and/or adults in Spanish.  He visited last week with his adviser, Marti White, and we popped into a few classrooms during the visit and spoke with some of you about this offer.  Please let me know if you would like to explore some volunteer possibilities with this student.
  • Please consider supporting our Daisy Dash 5K/Fun Run on November 17.  Here's the link for all the info:  https://www.daisydash5k.com/
  • The Early Childhood Community Forum will take place at Daisy on Monday, Nov. 5th, from 4:45 pm-8:00 pm.  Keynote Speaker is Scarlett Lewis, founder of the "Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement."  Please consider joining us for this important evening!

Daisy Daily for the Week of June 25, 2018

Daisy Staff,

Two days to go and they will be chock full!

As always, please check our Daisy Google Staff Calendar, but I'd like to highlight a few things:

  • Class Rosters for next year will be distributed to teachers before Monday morning for a final review.  Please let me know any concerns, as we expect to be ready for "Step-Up" on Tuesday am and for us to notify families of next year's teacher on Report Cards, which go home on Tuesday.
  • Fourth-Grade Promotion begins at 9:15 am on Monday in the gym.  Third-graders and their teachers will be invited to attend as well.  Any staff members who don't have students at that time are certainly welcome to attend.  The outside celebration for fourth-graders will begin about 10:30 am.
  • After dismissal on Monday, the All-Staff Luncheon will begin in the cafe at 1:15 pm.  ALL Staff Members are invited to attend!
  • Step-Up will take place on Tuesday between 9:00-9:20 am.  This is an opportunity for students to visit next year's teacher/classroom.  Current classroom teachers will direct students to next year's classroom.  Any support staff who are available are asked to help with this transition, especially in younger grades.  (Teri Paulsen will welcome incoming K students in her current classroom and specialists will be on hand to welcome students in any classrooms where the teacher may be absent.)
  • Dismissal is 1 pm on Tuesday and ALL staff members are invited outside to give the traditional "Daisy Good-Bye" (lining the walkway and waving to students as buses drive around the circle twice.)
  • All Staff Members---please return room key and fob to the office before leaving on Tuesday.
  • The school will be open all summer (except for designated holidays) and we asked that you buzz in through the office when you come in.
  • Classroom Teachers: Please e-mail student welcome letters for next school year to Alicia, Jackie and Ruth before leaving on Tuesday.
  • Please submit any orders for instructional supplies that you need for the beginning of school before leaving on Tuesday.  Please note that not all orders need to be placed now; you may continue to order as you need supplies throughout the year.  Special ed orders go to Jackie & Madeline; Classroom supplies for ALL teachers go to Alicia & Ruth.
  • We don't have any major construction projects going on in the school this summer and I don't expect access to be restricted.  Please just prepare your classrooms for regular summer cleaning (all surfaces empty for moving and cleaning furniture.)  If you're wondering when the deep-cleaning has been completed in your room, please e-mail or call the office.
  • You will hear from Ben about updating your laptops and will schedule this with him, but you will have these to use over the summer.
  • Please remember to send home Report Cards on Tuesday!!!  No Report Cards will be withheld for money due to library, etc., so if you have any concerns about this, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP.
  • I will send a School Messenger e-mail blast home to families re: Summer Reading and Math Challenges rather than hard-copy packets.
Let's have a great two days with students and please let me know any concerns!

Ruth

Daisy Daily for the Week of June 18

Daisy's Young Athletes.....

Daisy Friends,

As we close in on the final week and 2 days of school, it looks like we may have some steamy weather ahead of us.  Just a few things to remember if Monday is as hot/humid as forecasters predict:

  • We will get fans out of storage and custodians will place large fans in hallways as needed.
  • Please encourage students and adults to stay well-hydrated with open access to water bottles and water fountains.
  • If outside for recess, seek shade as much as possible and limit excessive activity.
  • We'll share our few air-conditioned spaces as much as possible: library, computer lab, office/conference room.
  • We will monitor indoor temperatures.
The temperatures and humidity are predicted to improve as the week goes on, still with a summer-y feel.  Please feel free to use those water tables in younger grades and to bring back some of the favorite water-related field days for our children, as appropriate.

Activities, field trips, assemblies, meetings and other events continue to be updated on our Google Staff Calendar.  Please check that link daily:
